BLACK FOREST SERIES
Scientists estimate that one fifth of the world’s tropical rainforest was drastically destroyed between 1960 and 1990. They claim that rainforest 50 years ago covered 14% of world land surface, now only cover 5 to 7%, and that all tropical forest will be gone by the middle of the 21stcentury, 40% of animal and plant species in Southeast Asia could be wiped out in 100 years.
The rapidly decrease of tropical rainforest is worry us, the deforestation severely impacted on our planet by increasing soil erosion, greenhouse gas emissions and damage to plants and animals habitat, cause decline in biodiversity.
The materials use in the “Black Forest Series” installation: such as wood, charcoal and bone are the remains of deforestation, I have collected the materials from different region - Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and other region in Asia. The Materials provided the evidence and capture the powerful sense of sadness through the feeling of black and dead. I hope it can raises the awareness of conservation.
